General Responsibilities

  • The primary duty is the accomplishment of assigned project responsibilities with high standards of excellence.
  • Provide management the benefit of their expertise in matters affecting technical decisions.
  • Additional responsibility to lead the development of the technical staff, giving advice and consultation on technical direction and career development to other members of the engineering ladder.
  • Responsible for conceptualizing and implementing new design techniques.
  • Designs, develops, analyzes, troubleshoots and provides technical skills during product research and development.
  • Instruct and work with other engineers to properly meet the expected performance specifications.
  • Analyze technology, resource needs, and market demand, to plan and assess the feasibility of projects
  • Confer with management, production, and marketing staff to discuss project specifications and procedures.
  • Coordinate and direct projects, making detailed plans to accomplish goals and directing the integration of technical activities.
  • Plan and direct the installation, testing, operation, maintenance, and repair of facilities and equipment.
  • Direct, review, and approve product design and changes.
  • Recruit employees, assign, direct, and evaluate their work, and oversee the development and maintenance of staff competence.
  • Prepare budgets, bids, and contracts, and direct the negotiation of research contracts.
  • Develop and implement policies, standards and procedures for the engineering and technical work performed in the department, service, laboratory or firm.
  • Perform administrative functions such as reviewing and writing reports, approving expenditures, enforcing rules, and making decisions about the purchase of materials or services.
  • Review and recommend or approve contracts and cost estimates.
  • Facilitates advanced projects and programs. Executes project leadership role and aids the development of technical ideas into final product by providing guidance and coordinating the efforts of a diverse group of technical professionals. Must be highly motivated with ability to take on complex assignments with minimal direction.
  • Apply sound engineering principles, product specifications and research data to create designs for systems and products for semiconductor industry.
  • Conduct system analysis involving thermal, stress, tolerances and fluid dynamics
  • Determine feasibility of product proposals, resolve problems based on technical inputs and develop new designs based on the same, maintaining product design safety criteria.
  • Prepare product/system designs and related engineering documentation for the manufacturing and testing of prototype and production released products. The documentation shall be complete, be easy to follow and reflect a level of accuracy surpassing customer’s expectations.
  • Provide leadership and engineering direction in finalization of specifications, designs, fabrication techniques and test protocols. This entails report generation, schedule creation and maintenance, design reviews and extensive inter departmental coordination.
  • Instill teamwork, satisfy customer requirements and maintain schedules while following budgetary constraints.
  • Provide assistance in establishing product configuration and structures on new products and features in both development and manufacturing environments.
  • Hold and participate in design reviews for unique customer driven specials, for changes implementing product enhancements and other new designs prior to their release to production.
  • Travel to international technical meetings and to customer sites to participate in technical discussions defining special customer requirements and product configurations.
  • Work closely with marketing, customers and vendors to prepare cost estimates dealing with non standard options, new system features and product enhancements. This includes customer interactions dealing with order configuration, design revisions, installation requirements and system specifications.
  • Develop cost reduction projects and equipment improvement projects in conjunction with technical staff, managers and manufacturing groups. Support development and testing of associated hardware to verify performance objectives. Create test plans, verify and approve test procedures, and develop and maintain reliability data and records on all evaluations performed.
  • Interface with other organizations on new product updates and ensure a smooth transition of the product into manufacturing cycle.

Education & Experince:

  • BS in mechanical engineering with 10-12 years of experience, MS or Ph.D. in mechanical engineering with 8-10 year’s experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience for which comparable knowledge, skills and ability has been achieved.
  • 5+ years in engineering management or technical project management plus
  • 8 years in direct technical involvement with semiconductor industry related products, with a Systems Engineering focus.
  • Experience in semiconductor equipment systems packaging and the integration of various system sub-components (gas systems, vacuum systems, controls, etc.)
  • Extensive experience in the engineering and design of complex mechanical systems including, process reactors, gas delivery systems, vacuum systems, pneumatics, water circuits, wafer handling systems, motion controls, and product packaging.
  • Ability to design, develop and integrate system level mechanical features and functions, including configuration control aspects.
  • Adept at directing/working with a diverse group of people to achieve requirements and specifications on complex projects.
  • Must be well versed in the requirements of CE, NFPA, Semi S2-95 and other relevant standards as applicable to semiconductor manufacturing equipment.
  • Ability to create, check, review, and analyze mechanical designs, test procedures and equipment specifications.
  • Capable of providing and maintain resource schedules/planning/coordinating and reporting activities. This includes interfacing with other organizations and outside vendors on resource requirements.
  • Understanding of materials; metals, plastics, quartz, graphite, surface coatings and surface finishes.
  • Computer proficiency in Microsoft applications, 3D modeling, preferably Pro-E.
  • Proficiency in ANSI Y14.5, including geometric tolerancing
  • Strong and effective oral and written communication skills
  • Technical report writing/interpretation skills
  • Use logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems.
  • Identify complex problems and review related information to develop and evaluate options and implement solutions
