Recruiting an Entire Team Over to a Competitor
A publicly-traded, fabless semiconductor organization specializing in
the development of custom ASICs for Tier 1 OEMs in the consumer
The Client had recently appointed a new CEO who introduced a
strategic roadmap aimed at diversifying their product mix to attract
new business opportunities.
When The Client’s top customer offered a substantial design-in
opportunity, they urgently required the assembly of an engineering
team with specific technical expertise, a strong history of working
together, and a proven track record of delivering at high volume.
The Client’s Talent Acquisition team lacked the necessary market
insights to recruit talent from competitors and they also needed to
safeguard the confidentiality of the customer opportunity.
As a result, they sought a partner experienced in talent mapping to
analyze competitors’ organizations and identify suitable candidates, all
while maintaining strict confidentiality. This all had to happen within a
three month window.
We guided The Client by identifying three geographic regions with the
highest concentration of talent with the required technical expertise,
and we offered valuable insights into their competitors’ engineering
After further analysis, we honed in on a target competitor located in the
most cost-effective geographic area and we subsequently developed an
efficient recruiting framework to extract the team for this project.
We capitalized on our extensive network which included relationships
with influential executives and engineering leaders. This enabled us to
create enthusiasm for establishing a new design center.
We engaged individual contributor engineers by crafting a persuasive
narrative tailored to each person’s individual desires and requirements,
all while ensuring strict confidentiality of The Client’s specific details.
Once we reached a critical mass of engineers with all the necessary
skills for a comprehensive design flow, we revealed The Client’s details
and coordinated interviews with The Client in an orchestrated effort
that unfolded over the course of just three business days.
After successfully recruiting two influential leaders, we screened 55
senior level individual contributor engineers.
34 of those individual contributors were presented to The Client and
all of them advanced to receive offers.
In 74 days, we recruited a full team of 30 members for The Client
including 2 leaders and 28 senior level engineers.
